Living Missional

When asked a question about the most important part of the law, Jesus responded not with belief but with action, "Love God with all your heart, understanding, and strength.  And, love your neighbor as you would love yourself."

Therefore, how are you loving God and neighbor this week?

God has challenged me this year to think drenfieftly about groups of people I viewed harshly in the past. He has been challenging me to love gay people and to expand beyond the black and white. I really appreciate Grace's focus on taking steps and being real.

“Is it biblical to dnefie the missionary task of the church as reaching all the unreached peoples of the world? Or is it sufficient to say that missions is simply the effort to reach as many individuals as possible in places different from our own?”In my opinion, it is our job to reach every unreached person in the world, whether they be in Hattiesburg or Africa. Temple does the Urban Outreach which is a great example of that. We are helping people receive Christ right here in our back yards. It just shows that mission work is needed everywhere, not just in third world countries.

Marv, thanks for the conmmet and I'm glad you like the new site for the blog.I applaud your work to focus on enrollment. Of the two numbers, enrollment and attendance, enrollment is by far the more important number. Sunday School attendance generally tracks or follows enrollment. Enrollment, not attendance, should the be the barometer we use in starting new groups.I believe a big reason that many churches do not keep good track of their enrollment is because it has become just a number, and not a gauge. They let their enrollment grow but did not start new groups to keep up with the increasing enrollment. As a result, these churches will often have 4, 5, or 6 times the number of people enrolled as they have attending. And I agree, LifeWay needs to update its enrollment and info cards. But until they do, make up your own cards and include email, and even facebook on your guest registration/enrollment forms.
